On Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, Hilda McKenzie, 73, closed her eyes and went to sleep, now resting in Jehovah’s memory and in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
Hilda was born to the late Hubert and Maggie Elizabeth McKenzie on May 8, 1951. She grew up in Moore County and she graduated from Aberdeen High School. She got baptized and dedicated her life to Jehovah alongside her younger sister, Marva, on July 2, 1992.
Hilda was preceded in death by her father; mother; one brother, Bernard McKenzie, and one sister, Sharon McKenzie.
Hilda leaves to mourn: son, Shelton McKenzie of Southern Pines; four sisters, Iris McKenzie, of Aberdeen, Phyllis Gaddy, of Southern Pines and Marva Horton (Larry), and Tonya Hodges (Reggie), of Raeford; four brothers, Donnie McKenzie and Mitchell McKenzie, of Aberdeen, Reggie McKenzie (Rita), Keith (Delisa), of Raleigh, and Shannon McKenzie, of Aberdeen; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Hilda enjoyed the field ministry, making her famous chicken salad and pound cakes, watching game shows with her mom and shopping, but mostly she enjoyed laughing and spending time with her family and close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1468 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Southern Pines, NC 28387.
